Hello there. I just completed my first trial exam and I felt the sudden urge to update. I’ve been facing a bit of a ‘burn out’ problem lately which I actually never thought I would encounter, or am I just being sensitive and over reacting? I hope so. I think so. I’ll be fine. It’s just the weather.
Anyway, I haven’t been doing a lot of recording lately but a lot of doing instead (sort of). In the beginning of Year Twelve I made a promise myself, that I will write down everything worth remembering because I don’t want this year to be solely underpinned by studying.
I often wondered what will first come to my mind when in a few years’ time I look back on the HSC years and it seems like ‘studying’ is currently in first place. It’s very boring, but this answer makes me guilt-free and even somewhat proud of my teenage level of self-control. Of course, there will other things. I met some amazing people (including teachers) this year and although I don’t know whether we’ll stay in contact after high school, what I am certain is that I’ll remember a lot of them for a long time to come. Great memories were made alongside the less appreciated ones but I’ll treasure the latter as well. They’ll remind me how to not make the same mistakes twice and ensure I become a nicer person as the years go by. I don’t know if I did anything so far this year that has left a lasting impact on someone but if the answer is yes then I hope they’re positive impacts, although I’m not so confident about that… …
Anyways, this reminds me: the trials! I did my English Advanced Paper One today and one of the essay questions has the wording ‘positive and negative impacts’. So, I’m not a big fan of talking about how I think I performed after exams because I don’t see the point of self-assessment at this point since I’m not the one marking it. What difference does it make in regards to how I felt I did? I do like discussing about the paper afterwards with my friends though, is that a bit conflicting? Either way, this entry is to mark the beginning of my trials examinations and the end of the first exam. Fingers crossed - one down, seven more to go!
Update: On Thursday, August 7th the Khmer Rouge leaders were sentenced to life! Never mind that they killed one and a half million people - citizens of their own nation - some thirty five years ago. Life imprisonment. What a joke. The gif. set is relevant here.

Greetings. I am now in my third term of Year 12. The first week officially started on Tuesday.
Apparently this is suppose to be the easy mentally but physically exhausting term. We'll be having assessments but they're in-class and according to the teachers they're less stressful this way. Correction: they'll be less stressful if they don't count towards HSC, haha. Sitting for an exam in class as opposed to the gym doesn't really make it less intimidating. It does, alright, I'll give them that, but not by a lot.
Early May. Each day is like a countdown. Every day we're getting closer to the big month named October.
Let's rewind and go back to the two weeks holidays. During those seventeen days I managed to watch one film at the cinema: The Grand Budapest Hotel. Mr. Wes Anderson is one of my favourite directors (The Fantastic Mr. Fox is an amazing film and I've been wanting to watch Moonrise Kingdom).
I had very high expectations and I'm glad to share although it didn't completely satisfy those presumptions, it certainly didn't fail. What makes Anderson such a unique director is his gorgeous film style and this latest work of his is certainly a step forward in his own distinctive approach.
Anyway, before the sudden urge to type something on this blog I was revisiting my old entries and came upon this post - 130204. Nostalgia. I was so scared in the beginning of Year 11. I didn't know where I would finish and I couldn't imagine "how Year 11 would end." It turned out alright - great in fact, better than anything expected.
It's like I'm going through the same phase again. I'm feeling somewhat lost and I can't predict how the end of Year 12 will be like. Maybe it's best to do what I did before:
"... there's obviously no point in just sitting down, doing nothing and wait for the magic to happen. I will try my absolute best and hope for things to take its natural course."
Try my best and hope for the best.

First post of 2014. I can't believe I didn't even post anything in January - first miss in four years, dating all the way back to 2009 (this blog started in December 2008). This basically means that right here, I have - attempted to anyway - documented various events of my short life from Year 7 onwards; beginning to high school to now the upcoming end. Six years.
I am embarrassed of the immaturity that flows through the entries of my early blogging years but I don't want to go back and delete them. It'll be the equivalent of editing or removing parts of the flaws that underpins the foundation of developing you into the person with the identity you have today, and deep inside we all know that's not humanely possible in real life so why do it here? I'm more than happy to embrace those cringe worthy lines. Maybe six years from now I'll be reading this very post and think "heck, why was I trying to be so deep?" or maybe just a "WTF" moment but you know, we all have to work with our ever changing expectations, it wouldn't be fair to judge the past with the current standards now would it?
Year 12 started last year and so in theory I'm reaching the end of Term 2 already. Year 11 passed like a breeze - a good, comforting, warming breeze. I hope I can say the same thing for this year.
Officially finished with my half-yearlies yesterday. The two last subjects were English Extension and Modern History. As usual, I try not to self-evaluate after exams so I didn't really think much about them afterwards. I have a general idea of what I want to do after high school but what you want to do is different from what you can do. For now I'll just have to try my best and ensure everything's done to the best of my abilities.
Mum came back with my brother from their one month and a half holiday trip and she brought back some of the best presents: books -- a lot of them, good ones too. I am waiting diligently for the translation of Haruki Murakami's newest novel Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage to be released, scheduled for sometime in August (birthday month, coincidence much?). Murakami is also publishing a new short stories collection so it'll take a while before the English translation is available but nevertheless, I'm excited because my appreciation for short stores is growing day by day. Personally I think they should be more difficult to nail than novels or novellas. Since it's a short, meaning limited in the volume of words, it also has to be concise. To have a great short story you really have to judicial about what to write. That's why short stories that manages to leave behind a long message always amaze me.
What else? Picking up a copy of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children: Hollow City. Starting Battle Royale , The Marriage Plot and finish off the rest of my Murakami collection. Before all that though, I should really finish Memoirs of a Geisha for my History Extension project and Wuthering Heights (in this case, actually open the book). Frankenstein was surprisingly good. If I have to list a list of the books school has made me read in a order of preference, it would probably be third, after The Great Gatsby and 1984, then you have Fahrenheit 451, Utopia and Northanger Abbey.
Initially I was angry with prescribed texts for assassinating the joy of reading. It's just less fun when you are forced to read a particular work. The worst bit is when you know you can't read it for pure enjoyment, rather you have to do an "in-depth analysis" and later write an essay about it. It just kills reading. Of course, I shouldn't complain because it has introduced me to some great authors, like George Orwell and F. Scott Fitzgerald, now my favourite author after Murakami. Fortunately the joy is coming back.
As the HSC is sneaking somewhere around the corner and getting closer every second I've rediscovered my appreciation for books. Don't get me wrong, I don't really have time to read them (we are well into March and the only book I've actually managed to finish so far is 160 170 180 by Chen Chen) but I've been ordering various books and crossing them off my wish list. It releases my stress -- not compulsive internet shopping -- but when they arrive in the mail and I place them onto my own book shelves, knowing they're there, waiting to be read. It also encourages me to do well, so I won't feel guilty when I do get through them after the big exam in November.
Phew, that was a long post. Perhaps it'll make up for my absence in the past three months. Till next time.

Year 11 officially finished three days ago, for me anyway. For a selected few it ended more than a week earlier, but I'm actually glad I finished late, to be able to finish on the actual last day, for both Year 11 and 12 alike. For the last two weeks or so I was preparing and sitting for the yearly exams, with English Extension being the last exam.
So, I can't say I felt good with every single exam, because I know I definitely made mistakes and so many things I could have done better but there's no point in saying this now. All I can do now is simply wait for the actual results to arrive.
On the last day, to mark the end of Year 11, yearly exams and just stress from the past month in general, I met up with a friend I've known since primary. Since we go to different schools now we have a tradition of some sort, if you will, to catch up once every school holidays. What do we do? We just talk, and if you want to be specific, I guess 'gossip' will be a better word, but I prefer 'catching up'. We just share stories of ourselves and those around us, such as a event that we can't help but judge silently (hey, we are humans too), or the internal changes we've noticed on some friends and the list goes on really.
What really caught my attention that day was the whole talk on those around us who are considered to be popular, and we would become sentimental over their previous self - the one we knew, and were much more comfortable with. Don't get me wrong, not all changes are bad, there has been some good changes in friends we've noticed, but unfortunately the negatives overrides the positives. At the end of the day, the so called positive changes to me is really about getting to know yourself and becoming more you - individualized.
If the real you is dropping out of school and start working at this age or going out to as many parties as possible in order to become known as the popular one, then so be it. Then there should be no negatives I hear you thinking? Well, there are some who I feel who are this way because the people around them are acting and expecting a similar behavior. If you are a certain way due to expectations then you are not yourself, period, and of course you can't claim to be an individual, not a happy one at the end of the day anyway. The again, these are just my opinions, of course I hope the people we talked about were not influenced, but rather this is who they truly are.
I'm glad I was able to realize this early. Maybe it's due to our schooling years coming to an end soon, recently a lot of people have been discussing about the times when they just entered high school, and as a result some have been saying to me, "I remember when you were in Year 8, you looked a lot better", yeah well, I wasn't happy. Truth to be told I agree with the whole appearance comment. Of course I looked better. I was underweight, wore make up every single day and dyed my hair every three weeks or so. But was I happy? Those are two very different things; looking good on the outside and feeling good on the inside. Sure, since I gained weight, chopped my hair (literally) and stopped wearing make up in Year 9 people have made comments, but I was a much more happier person back then and I didn't really give a damn if my facebook photos were no longer liked by as many people or people stopped inviting me to events. I became a happier person. Why? I don't know, but I think it has something among the lines of truly getting to know myself better and what I'm comfortable with. Like I said, if for you it's partying and for me it's staying at home with a good book then so be it, I'm not going to judge you so you shouldn't judge in return either.
Anyway, to celebrate the first day of holidays, technically today, being Monday and all, I played Sims for a few hours, finished the latest issue of Frankie, read Atonement for a while, and surfed the net. Productive I know, but isn't that the whole point of having a holiday? To be so productive is the whole purpose of having a break. I think I might finished the night off with an episode of Breaking Bad and the film The Help or maybe Kill Kill instead.
In other news, I can't believe we're already into September and I've only posted six entries this year. I still remember the days when I tried to blog at least once every two days, then slowly it turned into once a week, a month... There were things I wanted to record, but I couldn't, not on here anyway. Of course I have an actual journal in real life, so most things go in there instead. I guess I became more lazy overtime knowing I lost the majority of my followers due to my long absence. What's more I've had another online blog located on another server for about two years now, and I'm much more happier with the audience over there as compared to here. Will I ever give up Blogger? Nah. I started this in Year 6 so it's been with me for quite sometime, even if I stop updating here on the future I will never delete this place. I may set it to private instead, but I will never be able to terminate it completely.
Wow, this just might be my longest entry in a year, or maybe even more :B

If I learnt anything worthy in the past few weeks it would be the key to success (in the HSC) anyway would be consistency. Consistent studying will get you far. Too bad I kind of stopped doing that after the in class assessments last term.
But hey, it's never too late to realize something right? Right...? Right. Right!

Allow to start off this entry with a bold confession: nothing would've prepared me for Year 11. The teachers really weren't lying when they said it will be different to Year 10. It's been three full days now and I'm still trying to get my head around.
I don't know how it will take but there's obviously no point in just sitting down, doing nothing and wait for the magic to happen. I will try my absolute best and hope for things to take its natural course.
Extensive English is driving me nuts. Or, let's just say even advanced English is giving me quite a headache. After four years of consecutive 'A's for my report I thought I was quite good at it... but I guess I'm actually not...
Right now I'm so confused. Everything I once thought I enjoyed and was good at is now turning out to be another story. Clearly I've overestimated myself. It's also feels like I'm starting new all over again, like a five year old stepping into Kindie for the very first time.
I can't imagine how Year 11 would end... Labels: school

With yearly exams coming closer and closer every
day, the stress is also multiplying, perhaps not necessarily from the actual test but more pressure for doing well because of my
report from half yearly. Now I wonder how those students who achieve straight A
will feel. Wouldn’t they be constantly feeling the burden of getting good
grades? Being completely honest I have no idea what marks I will be getting but
fingers crossed it’ll be similar to semester one.
On the topic of Christmas I’ll be celebrating
overseas again which is most likely the equivalent of being in a room alone
with my computer and stacks of movie. No complaints though, since I’ll be
attending my first concert; Big Bang Alive Tour in Hong Kong! Technically it’s
not my first concert but the ones I was forced to attend really shouldn’t be
counted.
This year has been a pleasant surprise. Not
everything has been smooth sailing but one cannot ask for so much in life. The rumours online have finally stopped but I am definitely
being more cautious than I was before. Of course, it was never my fault to
begin with, since someone else posted up the photos and details of my ‘training
period over at South Korea’ but my problems lies within in the fact I didn’t do
anything about it for so long. If I stood up sooner everything could’ve just
stopped eventually instead of blowing up of proportion than it did a few weeks
back. Good thing is it’s all over now and I’m listening to Epik High’s new
album “99”, what’s there to whine about?
Also, sometime in these ten months I have stopped
expecting, simply because it’s much less tiring this way. Taking it one step at
a time is much more relaxing, I will just put in the most efforts I can afford
to and hope for the best.
I think I have given up completely of having a
social life. Call me antisocial but I honestly don’t care for group events or
maybe it’s the nature of them that turns me off. Is it normal for a teenager to
admit that they would rather stay at home alone and read a Murakami novel than
hanging out with their friends? I guess it depends on how you define the word ‘normal’, and in my dictionary it’s completely
typical.
Mentally, I guess, right now I am preparing myself
for Year 11. According to the teachers next year will be one long journey but
you know, I will worry about that when 2012 hits.

In just a week I will be starting the last term of Year Ten. Maybe it's because I haven't been posting very much but it feels like this year will be ending sooner than I expected. In February I complained about stress and subject selections, not knowing what to do and what I am capable of and now I'm always at the end of the journey - for now anyway.
My subjects for next year have all been confirmed two weeks ago and I got all of my choices, that's something worth celebrating. I am still unsure over maths, but what's the worst thing that can possibly happen? If it really doesn't work out well then I guess I might just drop it during the first four weeks... Fingers crossed everything will go well.
Before I worry about that though, I really should start studying for my yearly exams. Surprisingly enough, even though I did study harder than usual it was still unexpected, I got a quite decent report for my half yearly. More than decent in fact but I don't want to jinx anything. Hopefully, if luck is really by my side this year after all, I would be able to achieve the same results, if not even better for my yearly.
Holidays... Not much to share. Been staying at home and feeding myself with Gentleman's Dignity and Bridal Mask. I am becoming more boring and happier. Labels: life, school

My last entry dated all the way back in May, proving just how lazy I have gotten after Year Ten started. I do have legit reasons - at least for me anyway. School, isn't that enough of an excuse? It's paid off though, I am more than happy with my half-yearly report, the best I've ever gotten in fact. They do say how much you put in is how you you gain back yes?
Due to my inner nerd being up-front for so long there really isn't much to share. Would you like to hear about how I studied for my exams? Ha. If I have to share something it would be that under the influence of my friends I decided to read Fifty Shades of Grey. Despite it being a 'rated' novel I am not ashamed to admit I read it, finished the whole series in fact, in just a week. Curiousity got the best of me. I can see why it's so popular, especially among women but in terms of how capable the author Mrs. E.L.James is, she's still on the level of online fan-fiction, which is what she started off with. The rave right now isn't going to last forever and based on her writing abilities it'll be hard to have another work published and bcome as popular as Fifty Shades. James doesn't need another though, she's earned more than enough just from these three books in the past few months. With a movie production coming along and the book still doing pretty well in terms of sales who needs to write another book anyway?
What else is there to share? Vampire Idol which I started watching a few weeks back. I'm currently twenty-five episodes in with another fifty to go perhaps? Surprisngly, it's good. I wasn't expecting much, watching it just for the face of Lee Soo Hyuk, worthy enough. The writing and directing however is more enjoyable than I thought. They story-line is simple enough ti follow and once you get past that stubborn stage of the first few episodes you're in for a smooth ride. Lately because of the stress I have been feeling from school a drama like this = fast paced and funny really does cheer me up.
There's also Vampire Prosecutor 2 I am looking forward to. Mum's watching Flower Boy Ramyun Shop (did I even spell that right? My hangul is really going down...) and raving about Jung Ill Woo. Speaking of kimchi, those who have watched the drama would understand the link here - my mum decided we should go Korean BBQ for my birthday. Fine by me, I haven't had kimchi for ages.
That's a wrap everybody! Not really much to share.

Exams are finally over! What's a better way to celebrate other than updating all my followers about it? Ha. I'm not going to say anything more about it because I tend to think you do jinx things by mentioning them. Fingers crossed that they'll be satisfactory. Being honest, I think I worked harder than last year for some strange reason but I'm not at the peak yet.
There's not much to share. I've been studying for the past few days and checking out the message board from the Chinese community forum and all. Not much. Some hate comments, you know, the usual.
I guess the one thing worth mentioning is the movie I just finished watching. I cried a bucket. Like an endless waterfall. Homeless to Harvard: Liz Murray's Story. Go watch if you ever have the chance. It's very inspirational. While I'm at it, I would also like to recommend Transamerica.
Now I can finally get into the books and films I've been dying to get into for the past few weeks.

I really need to learn a thing or two about time management and how to stop procrastinating. To be honest, Year 10 isn't hard, school really isn't hard, even if it's all about my worst subject ever - Mathematics. People often say it's hard because they struggle in other aspects. I always complain about how I am bad at Maths, but really, I'm not. I've gotten full marks before and that time happens to be when I really actually studied. I can conclude that if I get my priorities set straight then school really would be smooth sailing for me.
Of course, everyone is different. For me it would be knowing how to have self control. Some may all be about finding passion and the interesting points towards what they don't like. Sometimes we do really bad at the things we can actually excel at, all because we tell ourselves even before we try that we can't do it due to the influences.
It can be seeing someone who does really well at one thing, and immediately you put yourself down. It's sad but that really how most people work - myself included.
Now where was I. Oh. Career assignment. Ha.

Friday, 17 February 2012 // 10:50 am

Recently attended the school Year 10 Information Night and it creeped me in ways I definitely did not expect. The teachers kept on repeating and repeating, saying that they're here to support us. They know it's a big year and as they said,
"We will always be supporting you. Come to us with any problems you have." The meeting made me feel everything but supportive. It felt like layers and layers of pressure piled on as the night progressed.
Handing out the assessment booklet definitely didn't help. It's helpful to have it of course. Outlining all the possible courses for this year or else I would be even more lost than I already am, and that's something. It scares me to know that the amount of yearly exams we'll have this year is really double the amount of last year. What's more, the things we're getting tested on includes the topics we did last year (which we already did an exam on, so who bothers to remember the things you need to study after you finished your test? It just comes into you and stays for a few days and comes out straight after).
There's always a good side to look at right? Yes, those comes after Term 4 Week 6. When we start to get ready for Year 11. Subject selections, knowing what is available to you and making the transition. Year 11 and 12 is completely different. I'm looking forward to it even if I'm not ready for it yet.
Edit: Had Peer Support. It was an complete disaster. I promise next will I will try harder. Oh God, if I can't even calm Year 7s down, what else can I do in life? Ha.

School started a few days ago and there are already problems, for me anyway. One way or another. My time table is pretty good, I'm happy with how they organised the subjects this year. I think it'll be a very tiring and long year, I can feel it already. The sad reality is, after this comes another two even harder and longer period of time.
There's just some slight mix up with the GAT English and Science classes though. People that are suppose to be in it are not and those who do not have enough marks somehow got placed into it instead. In the end those who weren't suppose to be in it suffer because the marking criteria will be higher hence it'll be hard for them to gain above average marks. So for me it's fine, after being in the GAT English class for three consecutive years, I guess I can have the last year as a relaxing easy pass.
I'm feeling tired very easily these days. School will be the end of me.

"If people are talking behind your back, that's wonderful. It means you don't have to listen to them. Think about what matters to you and why." Now a days if I find out someone has been saying things about me behind my back, I just think
what's new? and move on. If there's one thing I learnt staying at an all girls high school, it would be stop taking everyone so seriously and most people's opinions don't really matter. You need to learn to be able to tell the difference between jealousy, hatred and someone who cares about you and tells you the truth.
Go back two years and with my dreadful personality back then, I would most likely start up a whole drama if I find out anyone talks behind the behind, especially if they're actually my friends. Which just leads to another question, why would your friends 'back-stab' you? Oh wait, were these people really your friends in the first place?
It takes a while to find true friends but in the end it'll all be worth it.
On another note, I did the presentation day tour today. Eventually ended up with Oatley primary school. Can I just say some girls are absolutely adorable and I would love to be their peer support leader next year? Great manners and all. I just hope high school won't stuff them over.

Let's get the very exciting news (for me) out of the way: I got Peer Support Leader! Honestly I cannot believe it because literally everyone tried out this year and they announced only around forty people will get chosen at the very end. As you can probably guess, competition is very strong so I wasn't expectin anything at all and would be satisifed with just being a Peer Mentor, even though I really do want to become involved directly with the Year 7s next year.
The results came out during recess today and thirty-five people made it in. Luckily one of my really good friends Vicky also made it in or else I would kind of be 'partner-less'. In fact she was one of the three that got chosen for both Leader and Mentor. Jelly much? We all have to go through more confirmation but it's pretty much set straight. Yes, it's so obvious about how excited I am but it's a huge deal to me.
In other news I have been receiving letters from some very nice groups of people from China about my photography and one even started up a website dedicated to me. Never ever would I have thought this would happen and it's so nice to read those encouraging words coming from the other side of the world.
Also I have successfully sumbitted my first batch of work for the magazine I got invited to work on overseas and everything is in the final processing stages. I saw some of the previews that the editor Zoe provided and can I just say it looks absolutely awesome? There's so many talented people on the team.
That shall end my entry for today.
It's been raining for two days straight now and hopefully for the rest of this week. I love this weather.

Last night I stayed up until 12:30AM to finish watching a finale episode of this TVB drama with my mum. Big mistakes as I am sitting right here in IST class - last period of the day and trying very hard not to fall asleep. Just when I thought I have finally adjusted my sleeping pattern something always happens it's starts all over again.
One of my major goals for next year is to sleep more early. Sounds very stupid I know but it's not. After some research and calculations I found out I need at least eight hours of sleep each day. Not even one hour less or the very next day I will be pretty much dead. So last night I had six hours only, you can probably guess how tired I am right now. I just want to crash home right now and fall asleep on my bed. Which isn't possible because I have to finish off my Japanese assignment which was due two weeks ago but I had other stuff happening.
Anyone else realized that I always update while I'm at school and the tag for the entry is always school? I have no life these days.
It's already Week 7 of Term 4. 2011 is coming towards an end. It feels like this year passed by so quickly.
