Life isn't for posing, it's for living.

Reading the Sunday Magazine on a Monday morning is my way of starting a great day. I love everything about it. Personal favourites like In My Own Words and Things I Cannot Live Without. Fifi Box's Candid Confessions is another I enjoy greatly. She's honest about her views and not afraid to speak out and often, I agree with her on so many levels. This week's topic surprised me a little because I can actually really relate to and understand for once.

I recall her talking about relationships and how to ditch the sugar treats and all but let's be honest here, as much as I love reading them, sometimes I can't really picture myself in the scenario. Such as her words on dating, something I honestly cannot relate to or find helpful at this age (for me anyway). Her thoughts on chocolate and how to stay away from them? Well, I'm not big on junk. Nevertheless I find it interesting and reading another's opinion on a issue and their experiences is always enjoyable for me.

This week she talks about 'selfie'. Box defines a selfie as 'a photo taken of oneself. Commonly found on Facebook profiles and often snapped by young women standing in front of the mirror in their underwear [...]' Ha, now how much can I relate to that?

How many teenage girls is guilty of this? Box's article isn't targeted at teens, but women in general but being completely honest here, I think the problem is on a much more serious scale with young girls. Why is it that some people post photos of themselves pretty much wearing next to nothing, stick their chest out and pout in this extremely unattractive way? I will never know because I certainly don't find it flattering.

You have great 'assets' I know but if people ask me what I remember the most from looking like a photo like that, my answer won't be your caked face or your body but how much you're up yourself. "The lasting memory won't be of your taut abs, it will be your massive ego." Word.

Does it actually make you feel better about yourself knowing that all of your friends can see you in your underwear with that great body? Maybe they suffer from extreme self esteem problems. Constantly fishing for compliments - no matter which way to gain them from. No, wait, that's not right. If you actually post a almost naked photo of yourself up for the Internet, surly you have no trouble in the self esteem department. You know you look good, and you want others to know as well.

I understand that Facebook is a great platform to make an statement. You can make it look like you're having the time of your life with a simple weekend party shot but these photos are not doing you any justice. We should all have a bit more respect for ourselves and our body.

It's funny because this girl I know typed a status questioning the beauty standard these days. Something among the lines of women dressing appropriately and more covered up are really the beautiful ones. So basically the 30's - 50's period. Now you go through her profile pictures and there's ones of her in her push up bra and shoving her chest out for the world to see.

Yeah, I have no words for her. I guess we are just on different pages when it comes to eating our own words.

By arriving at school early there are many benefits. Such as typing this right now before DEAR starts. People tend to think if you arrive to class before or on time, this is something that's considered as "nerdy". For me it's simply because I like being in empty classrooms by myself and doing whatever I want. On another point, I do not understand why the high school society thinks being a nerd is "uncool".

Of course, those that can maintain their high marks but not their social life is more on the other side, it's like if you don't go out partying all the time you are not capable of socialising. Personal definition of high school uncool would be dressing all slutty, ruining the school image in public, swearing and way too much PDA in the station and most of all, while doing all these things in a proud manner and getting lousy grades at school.

You probably think I am a nerd and that's why I am defending this issue but I've had my time of being one of those that cakes their make up and failing school and those times were not pretty. I've learnt my lesson and often I wonder what I was thinking at the time. I just embarrassed myself in public whilst thinking I was being oh-so-cool.

I guess everyone has to go through different stages and for me it was just another one of those times where I struggled to find myself.
